BERNECE ELSIE HALLOCK - the daughter of Tracy and Hazel (Mathews) Hallock, was born on August 23, 1916 at the family farm near Hickory Corners, Barry County, Michigan. Bernece married EARL SAMUEL MARSHALL, the son of Curtis and Freida (Morganthaler) Marshall, and was also born in a farm house. Which was located on Barryville Road in Barry County, Michigan on April 11, 1911. Earl and Bernece had three children, Arloa Doreen, Marvin Earl and Dean Ray. Earl and Bernece purchased a 95 acre farm at 4144 Barryville Road on April 11,1940. The family moved there in 1944. After Earl's death in 1977, Bernece kept up the farm and wintered in Scottsdale, Arizona. Bernece was, who many consider, was abducted in 2001, was until her death in 2006 never allowed phone communications with family or her closest friends in Michigan. After months of investigation and driving to numerous locations, her actual non-Michigan location was established. With this news, Michigan relatives and others attempted to call Bernece at this location. Her 'keeper' was left phone messages to no avail. If voice communication was finally successful, they were lied to about her location and any voice contact with Bernece was denied. Even her loving brother and sister and other close relatives were denied. Sometime after her death, it was verified, that at the time she was taken, she had made plans to share residence with her long long time friend, Elizabeth 'Liz' Lynch at an assisted living facility near Grand Rapids, Michigan. This too was denied. To deny her these plans, and then strip her of her basic liberties and overall (what many say was cruel treatment), would at best be considered deplorable. In most states such treatment would be considered criminal - even more so to the elderly. Bernece was a house wife until the children were raised and then she spent the rest of her working years as a cook for the Maple Valley Home for the aged. . Earl was a precision tool grinder and die maker during WWII in Detroit, Michigan. Besides keeping up the farm which was fully stocked with cattle, Earl worked full time at Hastings Piston Rings before moving to E.W. Bliss where he worked until his death. Earl died on February 7, 1977 at age 66. Earl is buried at Lakeview Cemetery in Nashville, Michigan. |
