Jacob, the son of George and Elizabetha Bishop Marschall or Marshall was born on September 15, 1815 in Biron, German the daughter of Nicholas and Eve Bishop (who remained in Germany). The 1860 census shows Jacob's place of birth as Senperry and the 1880 census shows Baden Baden, German. Jacob married SOPHIA BISHOP 1-2 (pronounced So-fi-ah) ) August 28, 1836 while living in Seneca County, Ohio. Sophia is listed in the 1860 and 1880 U.S. Census as being born in HESSE DARMSTADT, Germany on July 23,1809. Jacob was nicknamed Jake. Jacob was listed as a farmer on the 1850 censes and lived in Venice township in Seneca County having property valued at $1,600. On this censes they had five children at the time, George age 13, Jacob age 10, Margarette age 7, David age 4 and Susanna age 1. The name Marshall was spelled Marchael on the 1850 census and changed to Marshall on the 1860 and 1880 census. However on his gravestone and records at the Tiffin-Seneca Public Library shows three spellings - Marshal / Marshall / Marschall Biographical Sketches at the Tiffin-Seneca Library states: JACOB MARSHAL - retired farmer and one of the old pioneers of the county, P.O. Tifin, ws born in Biron, Germany, September 23, 1815, son of George and Elizabeth Marshal, who immigrated to America direct to Seneca County, Ohio, in 1834, and here remand until their death. Our subject was married, August 28, 1836, to Sophia Bishop, born in Germany July 23, 1809, daughter of Nicholas and Eve Bishop, who died in Germany. To our subject and wife have been born eight children, five now living: George, Jacob, Mary (wife of Paul Miller), Susan (wife of Jonas Hoblitz - now spelled Hawblitz), Elizabeth (wife of Frederick Meyers). The deceased are David, Margaret and an infant. Our subject, who has been a farmer all his life, owns nearly 100 acres of land. He and his wife are faithful members of the Reformed Church. Jacob and Sofiah had seven children. George W., Jacob Jr, and Margaretha (or Margaretta or Margarette) were born in Ohio and David, Libby and Susan were born in Maple Grove Township in Barry County Michigan.
